Leicester City looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Timothy Castagne
According to the Daily Mail, Leicester City look set to trump Tottenham Hotspur for Atalanta full-back Timothy Castagne.
The 24-year-old joined the Serie A outfit from Belgian club KRC Genk in 2017. He has impressed during his time in Italy and was instrumental in the club’s UEFA Champions League run until the quarter-finals.
A versatile player, the 24-year-old can play as a full-back or as a midfielder on either flank. This interoperability would give Spurs an advantage in utilizing him.
Leicester believe the Belgian is the perfect replacement for Ben Chilwell. The English international joined Chelsea last week.
The defender has just one season left on his contract. Talks between the clubs have gathered pace and the Foxes are confident of getting the deal done.
Spurs signed Wolverhampton Wanderers right-back Matt Doherty yesterday. The 28-year-old is among the best in his position in the league. The position has been a spot of bother for Spurs since the sale of Kieran Trippier.
Serge Aurier, for all his posturing, is not dependable defensively and always seems to be on the verge of giving away an unnecessary foul or an error. Doherty, on the other hand, is also an attack-minded player but is no slouch defensively.
Adding Castagne to the mix would solidify our options on either flank. Unfortunately, it is Leicester who could now benefit from the Belgian star’s versatility and skill.
