Darren Bent backs Tottenham to sign Demarai Gray
Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Leicestershire Live), former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has thrown his weight behind the club’s attempt to sign Demarai Gray from Leicester City.
The 24-year-old joined Leicester from Birmingham back in 2016. However, he has found it hard to establish himself as a regular in the starting XI. Till date, Gray has featured 166 times for the Foxes, only 74 of which have been starts, scoring 13 goals and assisting 17 more.
He featured just 29 times across all competitions this past season, out of which only eight were starts. Gray, however, did manage to make a decent impression in limited opportunities, scoring three goals and setting up five more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Having entered the final year of his current contract with Leicester, it has been claimed that he could be available on a cut-price deal this summer, with Tottenham keeping tabs on the Englishman. (h/t Evening Standard)
And now, Bent has claimed that his ‘electric’ nature could make him a good signing for Tottenham, in spite of his inconsistency issues. (h/t Leicestershire Live)
“He’s certainly got something, you can see that when he gets the ball, he can make things happen and when he comes off the bench he’s always quite electric. Listen, if they feel like he’s the one that they quite like and excited about and they can get him then I’m all for it.”

Tottenham do have a lot of options on the flanks with Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn, Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and young Jack Clarke. In addition Ryan Sessegnon can also play on the flanks.
However, Moura was well below his best this season and the same goes for Lamela as well. And given the lack of cover for Ben Davies at left-back, we may very well see Jose Mourinho persist with Sessegnon in the defensive role.
Thus, bringing in another wide player who can add more firepower to the attacking unit, in the form of Gray, wouldn’t go amiss.
