Tottenham to return with improved offer Lucas de Vega

According to a report from Sport (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur could return with an improved offer for Barcelona academy prospect Lucas de Vega after a failed bid for the youngster.

De Vega has been with the Barcelona youth academy since a very young age. A versatile customer, the 20-year-old is primarily a central midfielder, but can also play in the No. 10 role or as a winger on either flanks as well.

The Brazilian youngster is yet to make his first-team debut for Barcelona, while he has also not featured for the club’s B team. He does have four appearances for the U19s, in the UEFA Youth League, scoring one goal. (h/t Transfermarkt)

De Vega spent the last season out on loan with La Liga 2 outfit Cartagena. He made twenty appearances for the second division side, finding the back of the net just once. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Now back at Barcelona, de Vega has become a subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites had already made a £2m bid for the 20-year-old youngster. However, their bid was knocked back by the Catalans. (h/t Football.london)

However, the report goes on to say that Barcelona could be willing to offload the midfielder for double that amount, i.e., £4m. And Tottenham could return with an improved offer to match that figure for the youngster.

De Vega poses an interesting prospect for the club. A product of the La Masia academy, he is filled with potential. However, at the same time, he is yet to make an appearance for Barcelona’s B team, which does cast some doubts.

With transfer funds limited, the club would be better off avoiding a move at the time and instead focus on strengthening the first-team.
