Liverpool open to sell Tottenham target Rhian Brewster, but with buyback clause

As per a report from Sky Sports, Liverpool are considering selling youth prodigy Rhian Brewster, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, in the current transfer window. However, the Reds would do so with a buyback clause inserted.

The 20-year-old is one of the most highly-rated prospects to have come through the Liverpool academy in recent years. Having made his senior debut in September last year, Brewster has gone on to feature three more times for the Reds.

Brewster joined Swansea City on loan for the second half of the 2019/20 season. And, he made quite the impact, finding the back of the net on 11 occasions in 22 games, leading their push for a promotion. However, they were eliminated in the playoff semi-finals.

Back at Liverpool now, the England youth international finds himself in a difficult situation as first-team opportunities will be hard to come by at Anfield. As a result, a number of clubs have taken an interest in the youngster ahead of the 2020/21 season, that includes Tottenham Hotspur. (h/t Football.london)

It is no secret that the North london outfit are need of a new striker this summer. Having allowed Troy Parrott to leave on loan, Jose Mourinho is left with Harry Kane as the only natural striker in the squad.

Going into the season with just one centre-forward could be detrimental to our hopes of a top four finish. Thus, bringing in a new striker to cover for the England captain is a necessity. And while Brewster is not proven at the Premier League level, he showed his potential with the Swans last season.

And as per the report from Sky Sports, Liverpool will now consider the possibility of selling him. However, it will come with a catch as the Reds will be inserting a buyback clause in the deal.

The report claims that nothing is set in stone as of yet. But, it is quite understandable that Liverpool would include such a clause given the potential that Brewster possesses. It remains to be seen if we do launch a move for the talented Englishman before the window closes.
