Danny Rose set to join Serie A side Genoa
According to the PA news agency (h/t Evening Express), out of favour Tottenham defender Danny Rose is set to Serie A outfit Genoa in a surprise transfer.
The 30-year-old Rose has been with the club for close to thirteen years now, having arrived from Leeds United. He was a key part of the club’s rise under Mauricio Pochettino. However, the England international has fallen down the pecking order at the club in recent times.
In fact, Rose had a falling out with new manager Jose Mourinho, which led to a loan exit in January, when he joined Newcastle United. Now back at the club, the veteran full-back has been training with the U23s, with Mourinho preferring Ben Davies, Ryan Sessegnon and youngster Dennis Cirkin over him for the left-back slot.
Rose is in the final year of his contract with Tottenham. So, it was always likely that the club would look to cash in on him this summer, with him not being in the manager’s plans.
There had been interest from Serie A club Cagliari in the England international. However, fellow Serie A outfit Genoa seem to have beaten them to the punch and are now close to sealing the transfer. (h/t Evening Express)
Rolando Moran’s Genoa outfit just about managed to stave off relegation from the Serie A last season. They finished 17th in the table, just four points above the relegated Lecce.

Moving from a club that challenged for Champions League spots year after year to a team that just about survived relegation seems like quite a step down for Rose. Nevertheless, it seems like the 30-year-old will be moving to Italy.
