Jose Mourinho expects Joe Hart to challenge Tottenham Hotspur skipper Hugo Lloris

Speaking to Joe.co.uk (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that he expects Joe Hart to challenge Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris in the upcoming season.

The 33-year-old has been Spurs first-choice keeper since he joined the club from Olympique Lyon in 2012. During this time he has made 325 appearances and has cemented his place as one of the best keepers in the country.

However, age seems to be catching up with him as he showcases a penchant to make errors every so often. With that in mind, the prospect of bringing him Hart to compete with him should help keep motivation levels high.

Mourinho was full of praise for his skipper who also led France to World Cup glory in 2018. He believes Hart is capable of pushing Lloris. (h/t Football.london)

“He’s a phenomenal goalkeeper and very important in our group but I think Joe will give him the hard competition that we need.”

Hart was a surprise signing by Spurs earlier this summer. The former English international was amongst the best in the business in the first half of the last decade.

He has, however, seen his stock fall since Pep Guardiola took over at Manchester City and has failed to hit the same heights since.

Mourinho however appears to have belief that the veteran goalie will be motivated to regain his lost glory at a big club once again. (h/t Football.london)

“I think a negative episode a few years ago marked his career for the past three or four years, because it’s not easy to leave a champion club and then go into clubs of another dimension.”

Hopefully, Hart will prove him right and push both himself and Lloris to greater heights.

It remains to be seen whether he or Hart will take the place on the bench against Everton this Sunday.
