Tottenham Hotspur has witnessed significant improvement in recent years. Led by Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham stopped chasing a Champions League spot and became a regular on the biggest European stage. Spurs have even managed to have a chance or two to end up winners of the Premier League.

The brightest moment for Tottenham in recent years was their elimination of Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals in the 2018/19 season. Yet, they couldn’t get their hands on the trophy that, in the end, went to Liverpool, to the disappointment of both Tottenham players and Tottenham fans.

Even though everyone believed that Tottenham would keep up the good work and win the title the following season, that unfortunately didn’t happen. Instead, the team lacked results, which led to some drastic changes — the replacement of the manager. To find out whether this move has brought positive results to Tottenham, read the text below.

Mourinho Taking Over Tottenham Hotspur

When a team hasstring of poor results, it usually means some kind of change needs to occur. For example, some teams, like Southampton, go for a new sponsorship deal to get better resources. The recent with Sportsbet.io might be precisely what the team needs to move up the Premier League table this coming season.

Yet, Tottenham Hotspur decided to make a radical change and find a replacement for the manager in the middle of the season. That’s how Tottenham ended up with its new manager — Jose Mourinho.

When Mourinho came to the rescue, the Lilywhites were ranked 14th in the League. Almost instantly, Mourinho helped Tottenham recover with five wins in the first eight games under his patronage. However, things didn’t go quite as planned after Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Moussa Sissoko all picked up injuries.

As a result, Tottenham’s performances suffered. Yet, Spurs managed to recover and went on a six-game unbeaten streak to finish in sixth at the end of the season. This proved that placing the team in Mourinho’s hands was the right move, and would have seen Tottenham end up fourth if Mourinho started the competition at the helm.

Current Squad Options

As the 2020/21season is on our doorsteps, the main question is whether Mourinho really has what it takes to lead Tottenham to title glory. Apart from strong leadership, the final result mainly depends on the quality of the Spurs squad members.

One of the recent signings worth £15 million includes an ex-Southampton skipper, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The arrival of Hojbjerg will hopefully help the team’s midfield, as Tottenham suffered in this area last season.

Soon after closing the deal with Hojbjerg, Tottenham went on a spree and signed three more players to the squad. Signings include experienced goalkeeper Joe Hart signing from Burnley, and Matt Doherty, a right-back coming from Wolves to fill in a position that seriously needed a fresh approach.

Along with these first-team signings, Tottenham also got their hands on Alfie Devine from QPR, a teenage midfielder displaying undeniable talent and bags of potential. Devine is going to join Tottenham’s academy and to prepare for big games in the months to come.

Together with signing new players, Spurs also let some players go. Jan Vertonghen, whose contract has expired this year is out, along with Michel Vorm, Kyle Walker-Peters, Oliver Skipp, Troy Parrott, and Timothy Eyoma, have all left the club on loan.
