Villarreal in advanced talks to sign Tottenham starlet Juan Foyth
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t Football.london), La Liga giants Villarreal are in ‘advanced talks’ with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Juan Foyth this summer.
The 22-year-old Foyth joined Tottenham in 2017 from Argentine outfit Estudiantes. But, in his three years at the club, the versatile defender hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular in the Spurs’ first-team.
The 2019/20 campaign was a difficult one for the Argentine international, who had to deal with multiple injuries, while the change of management didn’t help his cause either. Indeed, Foyth received very few opportunities under Jose Mourinho and failed to make the most of those.
Having featured just seven times last season, Foyth is yet to make a single appearance in 2020/21. In fact, he hasn’t even been named in the matchday squad even once so far this term.
For a while now, it has been claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are actively looking to offload the Argentine international before the current transfer window closes. And as per the latest update, the 22-year-old could be closing in on an exit, with Villarreal in advanced negotiations to sign him up. (h/t Football.london)
The report claims that Foyth will be joining the Yellow Submarine on a season-long loan deal. But, there is no mention of whether there will be an option of making the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

Given the potential that the defender has, a loan spell could be the right move as it would provide Spurs to integrate back him into the team if he is a success at Villarreal. However, there is also the risk of losing him in a cut-price deal next summer, with his contract expiring him in 2022.
Nevertheless, it seems like Foyth will be on his way out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the window closes.
