Tottenham could lose out on Sergio Reguilon despite just signing him in the summer

Sergio Reguilon has barely made a mark at Tottenham and rumours of his exit have started doing the rounds. The 23-year-old Spaniard joined Tottenham from Real Madrid for a fee of £27.5million (h/t Football.london) in the summer.

Reguilon has so far featured in four games for us and has a goal and an assist to his name. The left-back also played for the Spanish national side during the recent international break.

Reguilon was on loan at Sevilla last season but Real have a buy-back clause in his contract and that is the concern for Spurs.

AS (h/t Football.london) claims that Real Madrid could be looking to replace veteran left-back Marcelo in the coming year or so. The 31-year-old Brazilian has been a Real player for over 13 years. However, he only made 23 appearances for the club in all competitions last year.

Two-year window

Reguilon’s buy-back clause lasts for two years and it will be interesting to see what happens with him. The Spaniard still hasn’t been at his best since arriving at Spurs.

However, he does need some time to acclimatize to the country and Jose Mourinho’s tactics. Reguilon was one of the best left-backs in La Liga last season and it was a bit of a coup for us to land him.

The 23-year-old made his Premier League debut in the crazy 6-1 win over Manchester United. However, he will improve with more games under his belt.

Should he fulfil his potential, losing him would be a bit of a blow. Real recalling a star is always difficult to deal with and hopefully, the La Liga giants find someone else to replace Marcelo.
