Tottenham Hotspur leading the race to sign Arkadiusz Milik

According to Calcio Mercato via Sport Witness (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Polish ace Arkadiusz Milik.

The Napoli star is keen to leave the club mid-season. His opportunities are set to be limited after being left out of Napoli’s Serie A and Champions League squads. The Italians for their part are open to his departure.

Currently in the final year of his contract, Milik could leave for free next summer. Selling him in January will ensure Napoli can recoup some of their investment in him.

Spurs were in the market for a striker earlier this summer. Bringing in a backup for Harry Kane was considered a priority and Milik was once of the players considered.

The 26-year-old stayed put in Napoli and Tottenham changed tracks to secure Benfica ace Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan.

It was earlier reported that Napoli could even accept a fee as low as £6.3million for Milik’s services. Obtaining a player of his quality for such a throwaway price is something we should look to exploit.

Having joined Napoli from Ajax Amsterdam in 2016, Milik has struck 48 goals in 122 appearances for the Italians. He is however yet to make an appearance for the Italian giants this season.

While we could sign him on a free next summer, waiting until they could see other teams trump us. The likes of Juventus, Roma, Everton, and Fiorentina are all interested and could trump us if we delay our decision.

Spurs have made a number of excellent buys this season. We could continue the trend if we do succeed in bringing in Milik in January. The Polish star will not just add strength in depth but also quality to our squad.
