Harry Kane defends himself over penalty incident against Brighton

Speaking to Sky Sports, as reported by Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has responded to accusations of diving in the Lilywhites’ 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion this past weekend.

The 27-year-old went down after a collision with Adam Lallana, with referee Graham Scott awarding a free-kick after the incident. However, following a VAR review, Tottenham were given a penalty for the incident. And the England captain made no mistake from the spot.

However, since the game, Kane has been accused of diving to win the foul, by the likes of Martin Keown and Gary Lineker. (h/t Football.london)

Non-plussed by the reactions by some within the footballing community Kane has given his account of the incident. (h/t Football.london)

“From my point of view the ball was in the air, I’ve tried to put my body in between the player to shield the ball as if you would from a goal kick. He has jumped into the back of me with quite a bit of force, which obviously put me to the floor.”

Kane acknowledged that it may have been a 50-50 decision. But he insisted that both the referee and the VAR thought it was a foul. (h/t Football.london)

“They have a look at it, they decide if they think it’s a foul, the ref and the VAR both did. And that’s why I got the penalty.”
