Tottenham sure of extending the contract of Son Heung-min

According to Football Insider (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are confident of tying down key forward Son Heung-min with a new contract, which could see him pocket wages similar to strike-partner Harry Kane.

The 28-year-old Son Heung-min has started the 2020/21 campaign in absolute blazing fashion. The South Korean and partner-in-crime Harry Kane have been in brilliant form, helping Spurs to the third place in the Premier League table.

So far, Son has racked up eight goals in seven Premier League outings, while registering two assists as well. In addition, he has also scored and assisted two goals apiece in the UEFA Europa League (qualifiers included). (h/t Transfermarkt)

Following his electric start to the season, Tottenham are keen on rewarding Son with a new and improved deal matching his status within the team currently. The club are willing to offer him a salary similar to top-earner Kane and are believed to confident of hammering out a deal before the end of the year. (h/t Express)

Kane is currently on wages of around £200,000 a week, before bonuses. And, it is being claimed that Son, too, could be set for a similar pay along with performance-related add-ons. (h/t Express)

Son’s current deal runs till the summer of 2023. But considering his contributions to the side, it goes without saying that he is deserving of a hike, while the club must ensure that his long-term future at the club is also secured.

So, a new contract which would see him move to the same pay-grade as Harry Kane, makes total sense.
