Gabby Agbonlahor feels Tottenham might lose out on title because of the defence
Speaking with Football Insider (h/t Express), former Aston Villa and England striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has warned Jose Mourinho that Tottenham could miss out on the Premier League title because of the club’s defence.
Tottenham have made a brilliant start to the campaign, having gone unbeaten since the opening day defeat to Everton. Heading into the international break, Spurs are seated second in the Premier League title, with 16 points from eight games so far.
So talks of a title have already been doing the rounds, although manager Jose Mourinho has been doing his best to downplay those, so as to not put undue pressure on his players.

And while there are a number of pundits who agree that Spurs can go the distance this season, Agbonlahor sees things differently and believes that Tottenham will be let down by the club’s centre-backs – Toby Alderweireled, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier. (h/t Express)
“I just don’t see them winning the league because of their defence, I don’t think their defence is up to scratch, really, and they will concede goals. Alderweireld, Sanchez, Dier, they’re okay defenders but I don’t think they’re the ones who are going to take Spurs to a title.”
While our defence had a poor campaign last time out, Agbonlahor seems to be ignoring the fact that Tottenham have the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League this season, having let in just nine goals.
Apart from that second half against West Ham, the rearguard has looked tough to beat, with Eric Dier particularly impressing this season.

It is still early days in the campaign to call a favourite in the race for the title. However, if the team manages to continue playing like the way they have been, we have a very good chance of proving Agbonlahor wrong.
