Frank Lampard insists Tottenham are in the title race in spite of Mourinho comments

As reported by the Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are in the race for the Premier League title, despite Jose Mourinho insisting otherwise.

Tottenham and Chelsea played out a goalless draw on Sunday at Stamford Bridge in matchweek 10 of the Premier League. The result meant we moved back to the top of the Premier League Standings, having seen Liverpool usurp the top spot on Saturday.

Mourinho, however, said in his post-match interview that Tottenham were not strong contenders for the Premier League title despite sitting at the top. The Portuguese called us a ‘pony’ in a horserace. Instead, he insisted that Chelsea were the big contenders. (h/t Express)

“They are one of the biggest contenders, there is no doubt about that. We are not even in the race. We are not a horse. I don’t know the word in English, but the small, young horses. A pony. We are just a pony.”

Lampard, however, disagreed with the Spurs boss, claiming that given our squad and the form, we are definitely contenders, irrespective of what Jose says. (h/t Evening Standard)

“It’s Jose’s call to say it as he sees it from his end, but from the outside, they are top of the league. If we’re contenders then they have to be contenders. They have invested heavily – they’ve got people like Gareth Bale sitting on the bench, Dele Alli’s not here. There is a strong squad there.”
