Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler backs Jose Mourinho tactics in big games

Writing in his column for Sunday Mirror, as reported by Football.london, former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has insisted that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has every right to set his team up to defend and counterattack against big teams.

Tottenham are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table, level on points but ahead of goal-difference over second-placed Liverpool. Spurs boast the best defensive record in the league thus far, having let in just ten goals in 12 games.

Mourinho’s men have kept clean sheets against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal this term, opting to sit deep and defend and hit those teams on the break. This approach by the Portuguese has been called into question by a few detractors, but Fowler has thrown his weight behind Jose. (h/t Football.london)

“Jose Mourinho will be unrepentant when he comes to Anfield for that huge table-topping game on Wednesday. I agree totally with that, too.

“He has every right to have his Spurs play in any way he believes can get a result and an edge in the Premier League. You can moan all you like, but his methods have been effective this season – and he’s not changing now.”

Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace this past weekend. So, it will be important that we go to Anfield and get a positive result. A win at the Reds’ fortress would be a huge statement of intent by Mourinho and his men in the race for the Premier League title.
