Jose Mourinho sheds light on steady improvement in attitude amongst Tottenham Hotspur stars
Speaking on Amazon Prime Video (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has opened up on the change in mentality his players have shown.
Although there is still some way to go, he believes they are slowly but surely getting there. The Spurs boss had remarked earlier that he did not want his players to be ‘nice’. A little over a year since he took charge, Mourinho believes there is a change to be witnessed.
“I believe so. I’m not saying we’re better or worse than before. I’m saying that we’re different and we’re going in the direction I want us to be about the way they conduct themselves on the pitch.”
Spurs have looked a much meaner and efficient outfit on the pitch this season. Our ability to adapt to the opposition when needed and not be afraid to throw in a challenge has seen us transform into genuine title challengers.
The addition of athletically dominant players such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and the winning mentality brought in by Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon have also added different dimensions to our squad.
Unfortunately, it was not enough for us to beat Liverpool at Anfield yesterday. While the final result may reflect a loss, the game was much tighter.
Tottenham had enough chances to put the game to bed but failed to take them. Steven Bergwijn hit the post while Harry Kane missed with an open header. Irrespective of the result, there are positives to take from the game.
Mourinho’s squad did not look overawed by the occasion and put up a proper fight. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Spurs will look to get back to winning ways when we take on Leicester City this Sunday.

Spurs are just three points behind Liverpool and still very much in the title race. Roberto Firmino’s late winner was certainly a sucker punch. How our players will react to this setback remains to be seen.
It will be a true test of Mourinho’s assessment if our mentality has really changed or not.
