Tottenham urged to sign James Ward-Prowse by Glenn Hoddle

Speaking on The Glenn Hoddle Footy Show Podcast (h/t Hampshire Live), former Tottenham midfielder and manager Glenn Hoddle has tipped the club to make a move for Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

A product of the Saints’ youth academy, Ward-Prowse has grown into a key member of the first-team and is currently the club captain. The 26-year-old is closing in on 300 appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals and setting up 36 more.

Ward-Prowse has been very impressive in the 2020/21 campaign, contributing with four goals and three assists in 16 league games. The Englishman has particularly impressed with his set-piece delivery and Hoddle claimed that the midfielder would be an asset for a club like Tottenham or even Everton.

“I think his all-round game has come on leaps and bounds, but as a set piece artist there is no-one better. He’d be a major asset for Tottenham, for instance. Or he could go and play in Everton’s team tomorrow.

“Whether he has the mentality, you don’t know until he goes to a big club. But he’s been in and around the England squad and I think he’s growing as a player.”

Ward-Prowse signed a new contract with Southampton in August earlier this year. The four-time capped England international extended his stay at the South Coast club till 2025. And the Saints’ boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, who has claimed that his captain is the best set-piece taker in football currently, will fight hard to keep him at the club.

At 26, Ward-Prowse has his best years ahead of him. And if he continues to perform consistently at the level that he has been of late, Tottenham should consider looking at him the future.
