Jose Mourinho dismisses Fulham frustrations over Tottenham fixture

According to the Evening Standard, Jose Mourinho has dismissed any grievances that Fulham have over their rescheduled fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, insisting that they have no reasons to complain.

Tottenham were initially scheduled to play Aston Villa on Wednesday. However, a coronavirus outbreak in the Villans’ squad meant that the game had to be called off. Instead, Premier League moved forward to rearrange Spurs’ game against Fulham, which had been called off on December 29 for Wednesday.

The hastiness in the rescheduling of the fixture has left Fulham manager Scott Parker fuming, as the Cottagers weren’t scheduled to play until Friday. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder called the episode ‘scandalous’.

“It is scandalous. It is not acceptable, it is madness, it is wrong. That is why I am so angry.”

Mourinho, however, has hit back at his counterpart’s claims, insisting that they have had three days rest, having played QPR on Saturday in the FA Cup. The Tottenham boss also went on to add that Tottenham have played many more games than Fulham already and the Cottagers should just get on with it.

“We played 11 more matches than Fulham since the beginning of the season. Eleven. Every week, we played three matches a week. We played in one week four matches. We should see their team – their starting line up, their bench and the players not involved in the game – and after that we can all feel sorry for them.”

The Tottenham manager also added that if Fulham were to field their best team on Wednesday, they must apologise to the Premier League.

“If they come with half of the team, I will be the first one to apologise to them. If they come with their best, I think they should apologise to all of us. It’s just a feeling that I have: the best Fulham will be here. So when we see the best Fulham, then you realise lots of things don’t make sense.”

A win on Wednesday will take us to the third spot – one point below Liverpool in second and four behind leaders Manchester United.
