Leeds United get a helping hand from Tottenham Hotspur in their pitch troubles this season

A report by Daily Mail states that Tottenham Hotspur have given their permission to let Leeds United use the turf which was originally meant for Spurs as a temporary solution to their pitch problems this season.

Leeds United’s pitch has been in shambles this season. The newly-promoted Premier League team had plans of installing a new pitch in the summer.

However, Covid-19 put a halt on those plans. And as a result, the pitch at Elland Road has come under a lot of criticism from opposition teams in recent weeks.

It is, thus, no surprise that the club was looking for a solution until the end of the season. They have now figured out a solution. A turf farm company is willing to supply them an artificial turf, the installation of which would cost around £300,000.

The turf was originally meant for use in Tottenham’s new stadium for NFL games. Due to those games being cancelled this season, Spurs would not have much use for the turf, and have hence agreed to let Leeds use it instead.

A timely helping hand for Leeds

The new turf is expected to be installed at Elland Road before their encounter against Everton on February 3.

Head of Facility at Leeds, Mark Broadley, made a statement that their temporary solution is inspired by technology which is used at Spurs’ new stadium.

“We reviewed all options available and agreed the best possible solution was to remove the top surface and install the hybrid turf system HT Pro as seen at Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea City.”

Spurs would possibly get to play on the turf themselves. But they will have to wait until 8th May for a Premier League trip to Elland Road.
