Liverpool set to beat Tottenham to the signing of Kaide Gordon
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are set to face defeat in the race to sign Derby County youngster Kaide Gordon, who is poised to join Liverpool.
A product of the Derby County youth academy, Gordon has been held in the highest of regards at the Pride Park. However, their difficult financial situation has led to the club deciding to cash in on some of their young talents in the ongoing transfer window.
Gordon, who was awarded the Derby County Academy Player of the Year last season, broke into the first-team this term. He made his debut in a 4-0 win against Birmingham City, which remains his sole appearance for the senior team. He has, however, featured six times with the U-18s this term, scoring three goals and setting up a couple more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Gordon, who can play as an attacking midfielder, or on the flanks, has also represented the England national team at the U-16 level. He is widely regarded as one of the best players in his position for his age group. (h/t Daily Mail)
Tottenham had been credited with an interest in the 16-year-old as soon as the possibility of his sale came up. However, it seems like Liverpool are on the verge of sealing the deal for the teenage prodigy. The Reds will likely have to pay £1m plus add-ons that could take the deal to £3m.
