Antonio Conte rules out Christian Eriksen exit amid Tottenham links

Speaking to Rai Sport (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte has ruled out a January exit for playmaker Christian Eriksen, amid speculations of a return to Tottenham.

The 28-year-old left Tottenham for Inter Milan last January but has endured a difficult time in Italy thus far. As a result, the Danish playmaker has constantly been linked with an exit from the club, with a shock return to Tottenham being mooted in the media. (h/t Express)

The fact that Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta insisted that Eriksen will be allowed to leave the club in the mid-season trading period only added further fuel to the speculations.

However, Antonio Conte has now claimed that Eriksen will not be going anywhere this month. This comes after the Danish international scored a crucial injury-time winner against local rivals AC Milan in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday night. As quoted by Romano, he said:

“Christian Eriksen will stay here at Inter. He’s not leaving because we’re not signing any player, so we won’t let him leave the club. I’m so happy for his goal”.

That is as definitive as it comes, as Conte has put an end to all talks of a potential exit for Eriksen.

Considering that the 28-year-old had been well below his best in his final days at Tottenham and has struggled at Inter Milan as well, bringing him back wouldn’t have been the most prudent of moves on the club’s part.
