Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sent an impactful message to Sergio Reguilon last summer
Tottenham Hotspur hit gold last summer by securing both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon. Both players have been amongst our top performers this season and have repaid the faith put in them by the management.
The former was signed from Southampton in August, with the Spaniard arriving a month later. Despite being a newcomer himself, it appears that the Dane was trying hard to make his fellow summer recruit feel at ease.
Hojbjerg sent a long Whatsapp message to Reguilon, welcoming him to the club. It appears to have had a profound impact on the Spaniard. The same was revealed by Reguilon on the Spurs’ N17 matchday online show. (h/t Football.london)
“He said ‘Hi I’m Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, I hope you do well and we need you. I want you to do well for the team.”
A no-nonsense player on the pitch, it would appear Hojbjerg is the same when it comes to texts. The simple message, though short, spoke aloud of the expectations that would be levied upon Reguilon while donning the Spurs jersey. It is fair to say he has so far lived up to it.
Moreover, the fact that Reguilon received immediate support upon moving to a foreign country would have put him at ease as he embarked upon a new challenge. In fact, the Spaniard acknowledged that Hojbjerg had done just that.
“When you are arrive to a new stadium and a new country, it’s important to have people and players that help you and Pierre does that.”
Hojbjerg has established himself firmly as one of the leaders at Tottenham. A feisty player on the pitch, his leadership abilities have added much to the Spurs midfield. At just 25, he is yet to hit his prime and will hopefully go on to enjoy a long and storied career in White.

Players such as Hojbjerg may not be the flashiest but are difference makers on and off the field. The decision to invest in him has been a shrewd move and Spurs appearing to be reaping the benefits in more ways than one.
