Martin Keown wants Gareth Bale to be playing his best football at Tottenham after injury problems

Speaking to BBC (h/t football.london), Arsenal legend Martin Keown admitted that it would be a ‘shame’ if winger Gareth Bale could not recapture his best form at Tottenham Hotspur due to injury concerns.

The 31-year-old joined Spurs on a loan deal from Real Madrid at the start of this season. His arrival was met with unmatched excitement from the fanbase.

His season, however, has been highly disappointing. Recurring injury problems and failure to win Jose Mourinho’s trust has seen him start just 2 league games so far this season.

Martin Keown admits that even as an Arsenal fan, he wants to see Gareth Bale overcome injury problems and succeed at Tottenham Hotspur.

He has been seen as an option to play in cup games but is not trusted in the Premier League by Jose Mourinho. And Keown states that it is a shame seeing Bale go through this spell.

“I sincerely hope he can get fit again. This is an Arsenal man sitting here saying it… I want to see Gareth Bale at his best. To be denied that it’s a real shame.”

Bale not at his best due to injuries?

The former Premier League defender also mentioned that Bale is still suffering from the after-effects of his recurring injuries this season.

“Mourinho has tried to protect him. Clearly, he has an injury problem. They have had a scan on it and it doesn’t seem to be going away.”

If Bale was to return to his best, the Portuguese manager would be hoping it’s right this instant. Spurs are in their worst run of form this season.

The Lilywhites have lost 5 of their last 6 games in all competitions and are 9th in the table. However, the gap from 4th is just 4 points and a decent run of games could see Spurs back in contention for Europe.
