Jose Mourinho provides Sergio Reguilon update ahead of Tottenham vs Wolfsberger

Speaking in his press conference (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has issued an injury update on Sergio Reguilon ahead of the game against Wolfsberg.

The Spanish international arrived at Tottenham last summer from Real Madrid and has grown into a key member of the team almost immediately. Till date, the left-back has made 20 appearances in all competitions, contributing with five assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

However, Reguilon has missed the last six games in all competitions due to a muscular issue, with his last appearance coming in the 3-1 win over Sheffield United last month. Now, Mourinho has confirmed that the former Real Madrid man will not be available for the game against Wolfsberger either.

“No good news. [Sergio] is not coming. No setback, just the process is not going as fast as we initially thought. Let’s see. Weekend, next Europa League match, let’s see.”

Tottenham lock horns with the Austrian outfit in the first leg of the Round of 32 stages of the UEFA Europa League. The fixture is set to be played out at a neutral venue at the Puskas Arena in Budapest in Hungary.

Despite the tight fixture schedule, Mourinho went on to insist that he will field the strongest possible lineup against the Austrian outfit on Thursday night.

“The team that I’m going to pick is the strongest I can pick for the game.”

With Tottenham slipping down the table in the Premier League, winning the Europa League becomes further important for our chances to play Champions League football next season.

Reguilon’s absence is a blow for Mourinho & co., but in Ben Davies, the manager has an experienced option to fill in for the Spaniard.
