Tottenham privately contact Brendan Rodgers amid Jose Mourinho doubts

According to the Daily Record (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur have privately made contact with Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers to test the waters amid doubts over the future of Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese has taken Tottenham to the Carabao Cup final and the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 stages as well. However, concerns remain over the club’s form in the Premier League.

Having been at the top of the table in December, Tottenham have dropped down to ninth place in the standings over the past month and a half. During the run, there have been defeats against the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and West Ham, delivering a major dent in the club’s hopes of a top-four finish.

This has put Mourinho under increasing pressure. Rumours of the club already looking for replacements have been swirling around, with Brendan Rodgers’ name doing the rounds.

Now, it is being claimed that the Northern Irishman has been contacted through a third-party to see whether he would be interested in taking up the Tottenham job. However, the report does not reveal the stance of the Leicester City manager on the opportunity.

Apart from Rodgers, another name that has been widely mentioned is that of RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann. The young German tactician has impressed at RB Leipzig and has been on Tottenham’s radar since his stint with TSG Hoffenheim.

Despite all the noise surrounding Jose’s future, it is extremely unlikely that he will be let go of midway through the campaign, especially with the club still standing a chance of winning a trophy. However, if things don’t improve in the Premier League, the Portuguese could very well be staring at the axe come the end of the season.
