Tottenham face competition from PL rivals in pursuit of Real Madrid star
Tottenham joined by Leeds United in the race for Real Madrid ace Lucas Vazquez
According to Sport Witness, as relayed by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are set to face competition from Leeds United in the race to sign Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez.
A product of the Real Madrid youth academy, Vazquez broke into the senior team in 2015 after a successful loan spell away at Espanyol. And while he may not have been the biggest name in the squad, the 29-year-old has constantly proven his worth with hard-working displays and versatile nature.
Vazquez, a right-winger by trade, has filled in at right-back for the majority of this season and excelled in a makeshift position. In 27 games across all competitions, the Spanish international has produced a handy return of two goals and six assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
However, Vazquez is out of contract with Real Madrid at the end of the season. And negotiations over a new deal haven’t gone as per plans, casting major doubts on his future at the Spanish capital outfit.
This has led to interest in the winger from Tottenham, who had also been linked with the 29-year-old last summer as well. In addition, Serie A giants AC Milan are also keeping a close eye on Vazquez’s situation and now, Leeds United have also entered the fray to try and sign the winger once his contract expires.

As mentioned previously, Vazquez may not be the biggest of names, but has proven his worth at Real Madrid and has won many titles and trophies in his time at Real Madrid. Experienced and versatile, signing someone like him on a free transfer could work out well for Jose Mourinho & co.
However, with competition increasing to land the Spaniard, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham do make a move for the Spaniard.
