Jose Mourinho gave an injury update on Giovani Lo Celso as he shared Tottenham team news for Europa League tie
Speaking in a press conference before the Europa League clash tomorrow (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho revealed that Giovani Lo Celso has suffered another injury setback.
The Argentine has been out of action since December due to a major hamstring injury. His recovery was going well but Mourinho has now revealed that he has had a setback.
“Gio is not ready but it’s nothing to do with his previous important injury, from which he’s totally recovered. But with his accumulation of work, he’s got a bit of back pain so he’s had to stop what he’s doing. So not for this match.”
This means that the former PSG man will not be available for the clash against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday. The two sides square off in the first-leg of their last-16 Europa League tie.
But the good news is that it is not an aggravation of his previous injury. This could potentially put him in contention for the North London derby this weekend.
Mourinho was then asked about the team he would put out against the Croatians. The Portuguese emphatically stated that it would not be the same team that beat Crystal Palace last weekend.
Spurs reached this stage of the Europa League after decimating Wolfsberger AC in the round of 32 by an 8-1 aggregate scoreline. Realistically, the Europa League is one of two trophies Tottenham can win this season.
