Boost for Tottenham fans as PL chief hints at full stadium for the start of 2021/22 season

Speaking to Premier League Productions (h/t Football.london), Premier League chief Richard Masters has given some good news to Tottenham fans over the possible return to the stadium.

It has been over a year, barring a small period in December, that fans have not been allowed inside stadiums in the Premier League due to the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc.

However, that could be set to change for the start of the 2021/22 campaign according to Masters. As per the roadmap being implemented by the UK Government, fans can attend live matches in a stadium post May 17. But, the number of supporters will be limited to 25% or 10,000 whichever is lower.

“The Government’s roadmap is really welcome because it sets out a plan for a return of supporters, so hopefully the final two fixtures of our season will have up to 10,000 supporters in them all.”

Tottenham, though, play their last home game of the season on May 15. But, there is some good news as according to the roadmap, most coronavirus-related restrictions will be completely lifted after June 21. And Masters is hopeful that it should mean fans will be able to return in full to stadiums again.

“From the beginning of next season onwards, our goal is to have full stadia and obviously the Government’s roadmap offers us that opportunity. There’s a lot of water to pass under the bridge before that can happen but that’s our ultimate goal. The return of full vibrant Premier League stadia and a return to the normal Premier League.”

Having the fans back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium again will be quite an occasion for the club, the players as well as the supporters. The game is not the same without fans cheering on the players. However, utmost care must be taken before the step is taken as the pandemic still looms.
