Tottenham News: Jose Mourinho still the right man for the job, reckons Brad Friedel

Speaking to CardsChat (h/t Football.london), Brad Friedel reacted to the news of former club Tottenham getting eliminated from the Europa League by saying that Jose Mourinho is still the right man for the job.

Tottenham were handed a shock 3-0 defeat by Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday, which meant Jose Mourinho & co. crashed out of the Europa League on aggregate despite having boasted a two-goal advantage after the first leg.

Following the dismal performance against Arsenal at the weekend, this was another huge step back for Tottenham under Mourinho. This has led to questions over his future at the club, again. Friedel, though, is of the opinion that the Portuguese is the man to bring success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“I think Mourinho’s the right man for Tottenham.”

The former goalkeeper is of the opinion that players are still not completely attuned to Mourinho’s style of play having been groomed under Mauricio Pochettino. Friedel also touched upon how Tottenham did not operate on the biggest transfer budget which meant the club couldn’t just buy their way out of problems.

“The club is in a very healthy position. I think it’s a little bit unfair to talk about all the time ‘is Jose Mourinho the right guy if they don’t life a trophy?’ You also have to budget in certain ways to win the trophies in the Premier League I’m afraid.”

Any manager needs time to imprint his ideas on a team, no denying that. But at the same time, there has to be some positive direction that the club is moving in. As things stand, Tottenham are staring at the prospect of missing out on Champions League football for the second season in a row.

The Carabao Cup could still bring an end to the club’s trophy drought. But given the way the team played in the last couple of games, it’s hard to bet on them winning against Manchester City either.
