Tottenham on alert as transfer target declines new contract with La Liga heavyweights
Real Madrid star Lucas Vazquez denies new contract amid Tottenham transfer talks
A report by the Mirror mentions that Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Lucas Vazquez, has refused a new contract at Real Madrid.
And both parties are now looking at alternatives. Los Blancos are looking at Jorge de Frutos of Levante, with Vazquez wanting a move in the Premier League. He is said to have rejected a three-year contract offer from the La Liga giants which sees a 10% reduction in his wages.
And now, the versatile player has been offered to Tottenham, who are said to have an interest in him. And the prospect of living in London means that London rivals, Arsenal, have also been contacted by Madrid.
Signing Vazquez would be wise on Spurs’ part
While signing Vazquez would be a smart move, the problem lies in his contract demands. The 29-year-old wants a 4-year contract with a club that will play in the UEFA Champions League. Both Spurs and Arsenal are tipped to falter in that regard as they are way off 4th position.
But the report mentions that Zinedine Zidane has told club officials that he needs Vazquez’s future sorted ‘one way or the other’. And if no contract renewal is reached, he will be a free agent in the summer.
The player has come through the youth academy at Madrid and has spent the entirety of his career on their books. His versatility is an added bonus.
