Tottenham News: Harry Kane backed to break Alan Shearer record by Jamie Redknapp

Speaking on Sky Sports, as relayed by news outlet Football.london, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has backed Harry Kane to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record.’

Shearer is the all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League with 260 goals from 441 appearances for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United.

As things stand, Harry Kane, 27, is 100 goals behind the Premier League legend with 160 strikes from 237 appearances. Only Manchester City star Sergio Aguero has more PL goals than Kane among players still active (181). However, the Argentine is 33 and has his contract expiring at the end of the season.

So, that would leave Kane as the most likely to come close to Shearer’s mammoth tally. And Jamie Redknapp is of the opinion that if the Tottenham superstar stays in England for the next few years, he can go on to topple that record.

“As long as he stays in this country, yes. He has got to score 25 goals a season for the next four seasons – of course he can do that. He was born to score. He gets in the right areas.

“Of course, he is playing slightly deeper, but he is still getting his goals and having goal involvements as well. He will break that Alan Shearer record, make no mistake about it. It is just a matter of time.”

Kane has been in brilliant form this season. The 27-year-old was on the scoresheet against Aston Villa last weekend, taking his tally to 17 goals in the Premier League and 27 overall for the season. Should he stay in the Premier League for the rest of his career, Shearer’s record could be well within his reach.
