Tottenham target Vedat Muriqi rules out a summer exit from Lazio

Speaking to Tuttomercato, Lazio striker Vedat Muriqi has ruled out an exit from the club in the upcoming transfer window amid interest from Tottenham and Burnley.

The 26-year-old Muriqi had been linked with a move to Tottenham last summer. However, a transfer never materialised, with the Kosovan international instead moving to Lazio.

However, the centre-forward has endured a difficult spell in Italy, hampered by injuries and coronavirus. This had led to speculations that Lazio are considering the prospect of cashing in on Muriqi in the summer window with Tottenham showing an interest.

But the 26-year-old striker has quickly moved to dismiss those speculations. While he admits that things have been difficult for him in Italy, he insists that he is happy at Lazio and has no plans of seeking a transfer in the summer window.

“I was unlucky at Lazio, between Covid-19 and injuries. I also missed the pre-season retreat in Austria. I have to learn the Italian language and I also need to adapt to the team. I have a five-year contract with Lazio. I am happy in Rome. I’m not going away.”

Despite his struggles in the Italian capital, Muriqi is a potent goalscorer who enjoyed a solid last season with Fenerbahce. With doubts surrounding the future of Carlos Vinicius at Tottenham, the Kosovan international could have been a handy purchase for Jose Mourinho & co.

However, it seems like Muriqi is prepared to stay in Italy and tough it out. As for Tottenham, the club will have a key decision to make at the end of the season with regard to turning Carlos Vinicius’ deal into a permanent transfer.

The Brazilian has shown glimpses of quality and hasn’t complained about having to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane throughout the season. It remains to be seen what Tottenham do with the 25-year-old.
