Transfer News: Tottenham star Erik Lamela set for future talks amid Bologna interest

According to news coming out in Italy (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham Hotspur attacker Erik Lamela is set for future talks with the club as Bologna eye a summer transfer for him.

Lamela has been with Tottenham Hotspur since 2013, having arrived as part of the huge investment from the Gareth Bale money. However, his time at the North London outfit has largely marred by injuries and inconsistent form.

Lamela, till date, has managed 251 appearances for the club, bagging 37 goals and 47 assists. The 29-year-old has featured 29 times across all competitions this season, producing a tally of four goals and an assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)

But, the Argentine international will be out of contract with the club at the end of the 2021/22 season. Given that he is not a regular starter under Jose Mourinho, Serie A strugglers Bologna have confirmed that they wish to sign him in the summer, with sporting director Walter Sabatini confirming as much.

“Lamela is one of the names we are looking into. We are trying to understand if there are possibilities to get there. We’ll see.”

The report adds that Bologna are one among a number of clubs in Italy wanting to sign him. With growing interest in the versatile attacking midfielder, Tottenham are now set to hold talks with him over his future.

Lamela, at 29, still has something left to offer at Tottenham. The player himself wants to stay put at the club. However, whether Daniel Levy & co. will be open to handing an improved new contract given his injury-prone history remains to be seen.

In case, Tottenham do not hand him a new deal, Lamela shouldn’t find it hard to secure a transfer away given the interest in him.
