Transfer News: Tottenham eye raid for Wahid Faghir dubbed the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic
According to news from the Sunday Mirror (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a transfer raid for 17-year-old Wahid Faghir, who has been dubbed as the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
A product of Danish club Vejle BK’s youth academy, Faghir, a centre-forward has made his breakthrough into the first-team last season and has become a regular this term, despite being just 17 years old.
So far, the teenage sensation has managed 36 appearances for the Danish outfit, producing a return of eight goals and four assists. Five of those goals have come in the ongoing campaign, sparking a flurry of interest in the services of the young striker. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Premier League club Leicester City are said to be keen on signing Faghir and have already had a £1m bid turned down for the centre-forward. In addition, he is also courting interest from Dutch giants AFC Ajax along with a number of clubs from Italy.
Now, Tottenham Hotspur are also showing an interest in the teenage centre-forward ahead of the summer window. A new striker could be needed for Spurs in the summer with Carlos Vinicius’ loan deal with Benfica coming to an end once the season gets over.
In addition, there are big question marks over the future of Harry Kane, who is attracting serious interest from both Real Madrid and Manchester City. And while Faghir would hardly represent a replacement for either Tottenham strikers, he can be a shrewd investment with an eye on the future, considering the potential he has shown.
