Alasdair Gold has his say on Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing Danny Ings

During a Q&A session with the fans, Football.london journalist and Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold has claimed that the chances of Danny Ings joining the club in the summer are very slim.

Ings, 28, has been in fine form over the past couple of seasons at Southampton. The England international has put his injury woes from his Liverpool days behind and has rediscovered his mojo with the South Coast club. So much so that he finished the last season as the second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League.

Ings started the new season on a bang as well and even though his form has tailed off lately, the former Burnley man remains in demand. Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with serious interest in him in the recent past. In addition, Manchester City have also been linked with a move for him as a replacement for Sergio Aguero.

Gold, however, has dismissed any chances of Tottenham being able to land the England international until Harry Kane is at the club. The journalist is of the opinion that Ings wouldn’t be willing to play the second-fiddle to the Tottenham ace and could secure a transfer elsewhere.

“No desire to be a back-up to Harry Kane unfortunately. I can understand why. It’s a tough gig and if you’re playing regularly it’s not something you give up.”

Ings, considering that he has found his form again, and will be entering the final year of his contract with Southampton, would have been an ideal target for Tottenham.

However, it is understandable from the player’s point of view that he would prefer a move to a place where he would be the main man. More so, considering his age, this could be the last major transfer he secures.

As for Tottenham, a new centre-forward may be needed in the summer as Carlos Vinicius’ loan deal runs out at the end of the season.
