Transfer News: Tottenham set to pull out of Danny Ings pursuit

According to news from the Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have decided to end their transfer pursuit of Southampton striker Danny Ings.

The 28-year-old has rediscovered his best form since leaving Liverpool for Southampton back in 2018. After a season on loan with the Saints, Ings’ transfer was made permanent in 2019. Following that he enjoyed a stellar season, finishing as the second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League in 2019/20.

Ings started the ongoing campaign on a strong note as well, although his form has dwindled a bit of late. Nevertheless, on the back of his exploits, the former Burnley man has also managed to work his way back into the plans of England manager Gareth Southgate as well.

Ings’ return to form has seen him attract interest from Tottenham Hotspur as well as Manchester City in recent times. The latter are in the market for a new striker following the announcement that Sergio Aguero will leave the club when his contract runs out.

Tottenham, meanwhile, may need to add additional firepower at the top if Carlos Vinicius’ loan deal is not turned into a permanent transfer. To that end, Ings had emerged as a target, with the report even claiming Jose Mourinho had made contact with the Englishman.

However, it is now being claimed that Spurs will not be pursuing a transfer for Ings. This is because the club believes that the Southampton ace has no interest in joining the north London outfit.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

It is understandable considering that Ings would not want to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane, who remains Tottenham’s undisputed first-choice striker. Plus, the interest from Manchester City only serves to complicate matters.

It now remains to be seen who the club turns their attention towards or whether it is decided to sign Vinicius on a permanent basis.
