Transfer News: Tottenham ready to offer improved wages and bonus to sign Lucas Vazquez
According to Spanish news outlet Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are willing to offer improved wages and a signing-on bonus to secure the transfer of Lucas Vazquez.
A product of the Real Madrid academy, Lucas Vazquez has grown into a key squad player for the Spanish champions since his breakthrough in 2015. The 29-year-old has been particularly impressive this term, especially when filling in as a makeshift right-back in the absence of Dani Carvajal.
However, Vazquez’s contract with Real Madrid runs out at the end of the season. This has sparked a flurry of interest in the Spanish international’s services, including from Tottenham Hotspur. Our arch-rivals Arsenal are said to be showing an interest in signing Vazquez as well.
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, however, is keen on retaining the winger beyond the current season. To that end, the club made him a three-year contract offer with a 10% reduction on his current €3.5m per year wages.
Vazquez, unhappy with the terms being offered has decided to move on from Real Madrid at the end of the season. And in order to secure his transfer, Tottenham Hotspur are now said to be willing to offer him improved wages than his current deal at Real Madrid. In addition, the club would also offer him a transfer bonus as well.

The report, however, adds that Bayern Munich have taken the lead in the race for Vazquez and Tottenham will have to beat them to complete the transfer.
While he may not be the flashiest of players, Vazquez, given his all-round abilities can be a handy option for Jose Mourinho. That he will cost nothing in transfer fee is surely set to appeal to Daniel Levy as well. However, with Bayern ahead in his pursuit, Spurs will have their task cut out to sign him.
