Jose Mourinho delivers update on Hugo Lloris’ Tottenham future

Speaking ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Newcastle United, manager Jose Mourinho has issued an interesting update on the future of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. (h/t Football.london)

The 34-year-old has been with Tottenham since 2012, having arrived from Olympique Lyon. One of the best goalkeepers in his prime, Lloris has shown signs of wane in his form over the past couple of seasons.

With Lloris set to enter the final year of his contract with Tottenham at the end of the season, there have been reports circulating that Tottenham are looking for a long-term replacement for the Frenchman.

Mourinho, however, has dismissed such notions, insisting that he is very happy with his goalkeeping options in Lloris and Joe Hart. The manager was then full of praise for the Tottenham goalkeeping duo as well.

“You know I don’t want to offend anyone and I hope that people just accept my opinion. We have, in my opinion, the best goalkeeper in England and the best English goalkeeper. So I am so happy with that that I don’t think about what can happen or not happen. Hugo has a contract, Joe has a contract. I’m so happy with both.

“I’m very, very happy, no problems at all, and Hugo is Hugo, he’s a very good goalkeeper. He’s our number one. It’s hard for me to say that because Joe works so, so hard and deserves more than not playing one single minute in the Premier League until now, but it’s the reality of things. I’m very happy with both of our goalkeepers.”
