Steve Bruce slams Jose Mourinho critics ahead of Newcastle vs Tottenham

According to the Chronicle Live, Newcastle United manager, Steve Bruce has heaped praise on his Tottenham counterpart Jose Mourinho as the two teams get ready to clash on Sunday.

Mourinho took over the reins at Tottenham in November 2019 but hasn’t had the success that was expected upon his appointment. While it briefly looked like Spurs were right in the thick of things in the Premier League title race this season, a run of bad results since the turn of the year derailed any such hopes.

Last month also saw Tottenham crash out of the UEFA Europa League against Dinamo Zagreb. This has led to an immense amount of pressure on Mourinho, with his suitability for the job being questioned.

Newcastle manager, Bruce, however, has blasted the detractors of Mourinho, insisting that the Tottenham manager is one of the best ever.

“For me, (with) José, the criticism that he receives is, in my opinion, ridiculous. Here is one of the greats. Over the last 20 years, what he’s done and what he’s done in the Premier League is there for everybody to see.”

There is no denying that Mourinho is one of the greatest, most successful managers in the modern history of football. However, at the same time, one cannot ignore that his methods did not work too well during his reign at Manchester United and things have been up and down at Tottenham as well.
