Tottenham Hotspur fans in despair as Arsenal loanee Joe Willock scores to hand Newcastle United a draw
Tottenham Hotspur played out a disappointing 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on Sunday as the club saw a late Joe Willock goal cost them 2 valuable points. (h/t BBC)
Son Heng-min was reduced to a role on the bench after he returned from a hamstring injury. Carlos Vinicius started in his place, but was taken off for the South Korean at the start of the second half.
The match started off with Joelinton putting the Magpies 1-0 up in the 28th minute. But things turned around quickly as a Harry Kane brace had Tottenham leading by the 34th minute.
The Englishman was quick to pounce on two chances inside the box to put Spurs 2-1 up, a scoreline that lasted up until the 84th minute.
Joe Willock, who is at Newcastle on loan from Arsenal, was on hand to finish off a golden chance just 5 minutes before full-time. A cross from Matt Ritchie was kept alive inside the box and the English youngster slammed home a late equalizer for his club.
A costly draw
Spurs made three attacking changes as Son, Erik Lamela, and Gareth Bale, all entered the fray during the second half. But none of them could inspire Spurs to score a decisive third goal for the Lilywhites, and Lamela in particular was guilty of not passing to Son to make the scoreline 3-1.
The result sees Jose Mourinho’s side give away a golden opportunity to leapfrog Chelsea into 4th place on goal difference. Spurs are now 5th, level on points with Liverpool and West Ham United.
But what stung fans the most was the fact that an Arsenal player was the reason behind a late heartbreak at St. James Park, and a potential reason behind them missing out on a top 4 spot at the end of the season.

The habit of giving up the match in the final minutes is unacceptable.

Mourinho and his defensiveness does us again

This is all down to Mourinho again not wanting to kill games. Time and again we concede late goals trying to defend a lead. Sack him after the cup final
