Transfer News: Paul Robinson wants Tottenham to sign Marcel Sabitzer

Speaking to Football Insider (h/t football.london), Paul Robinson has backed Tottenham Hotspur to sign in-form RB Leipzig midfielder, Marcel Sabitzer.

Sabitzer has been linked with a move to Spurs recently after impressing heavily in the Bundesliga. He joined Leipzig in 2015 from RB Salzburg and has hit form this season, with 6 goals and 3 assists in the league so far. (h/t transfermarkt)

One issue for Spurs in any potential transfer may be the competition for Sabitzer from other top European clubs. And the club could also have to sell first in order to buy big. (h/t football.london)

But the Austrian international is one addition that would be worth the trouble. And Robinson thinks that just being linked with a player of his calibre is a big statement from Daniel Levy and co.

“Sabitzer is a sensational player. He really is a top player and I think he’d be a good signing. Spurs have been linked with him for a while and quite a few other top players and it tells you a lot about the chairman. It is credit to Daniel Levy really.”

Sabitzer to Spurs?

The former Tottenham goalkeeper also mentioned that this is a sign of Levy backing Jose Mourinho. Spurs, after all, are not a club that has gained a reputation to be big spenders.

“It shows you that he is not afraid to spend big and he is not afraid to back his manager either.”

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min shoulder much of the creative and scoring burden at Spurs. Adding Sabitzer could mean goals and assists from midfield, something that the club is devoid of recently.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

It remains to be seen if Mourinho actually goes after Sabitzer. The player’s contract expires in the summer of 2022 and the report mentions that Tottenham would look to use that to their advantage.
