Transfer News: Tottenham face Man City battle for Sander Berge

According to news from Voetbal 24 (h/t The Sun), Manchester City have entered the race to sign Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, who is a transfer target for Tottenham.

Berge, 23, joined Sheffield United in January last year and quickly went about establishing himself as a regular at Bramall Lane. However, with the Blades set for relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season, they are facing the prospect of losing some of their top players.

Berge is one such player who could leave the Yorkshire-based outfit when the season gets over and relegation is confirmed. This had alerted a number of top Premier League clubs including Tottenham and our rivals Arsenal, who were keen on signing him in the summer. (h/t Express)

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool to have been credited with an interest in the Norwegian international. And now, current league leaders Manchester City have also entered the race to sign the 23-year-old Berge. (h/t The Sun)

The Cityzens are in the market for a long-term replacement for veteran defensive midfielder Fernandinho. And, it is said that they see Berge as the ideal man to fill in the vacant boots of the Brazilian when his time at the club draws to a close when his contract runs down at the end of the season.

This could likely come as a blow for Tottenham as well as other clubs who were interested in securing the transfer of Berge in the summer window.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Given Manchester City’s spending power, they will be in a position to offer a bigger transfer fee as well as a more lucrative contract to Berge. This would make things difficult for us if the club does decide to press ahead with the pursuit of Berge.

However, the Norwegian might not be chased if Tottenham are able to land top target Marcel Sabitzer though.
