Tottenham Hotspur News: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fires shots at Jose Mourinho ahead of Manchester United tie
The Express claims that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken a sly dig at Jose Mourinho before his team’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
The two sides are set to go up against each other on Sunday in what promises to be a titanic encounter. And it seems that the mind games have already begun.
Mourinho recently stated how Solskjaer should ask Alex Ferguson about the importance of winning trophies as he aimed a dig at the Norwegian. And now, the United boss said a few words of his own.
Mourinho led Manchester United to a 2nd-placed finish in the 2017/18 season, citing that as one of his biggest achievements as a manager. But Solskjaer disagrees with that, saying that finishing 2nd is ‘not an achievement’.
“If we manage that you can’t say that is an achievement. Our ambition is a lot more than second place. I said that when I wasn’t even at the club – you can never be happy with that and we’re not.”
Mind games
But Solskjaer says he recognizes the need to have a solid base in order to aim for bigger things. And hence, the gaffer wants his team to finish runners-up in style this season before aiming to go one better during the next campaign.
“If we can get a good second place, not just scrape into it at the end of the season but have a good finish. Then we will go into the next one with hopes we can go even further and do even better.”
It has been a while since United won any silverware, with their last trophy coming under the current Spurs manager. They’ve made a bunch of semi-finals in cup competitions, but that is worthless if you don’t go all the way.

The jury will continue to be out on Solskjaer until he manages to win something. Mourinho is yet to win anything at Spurs too but the Portuguese’s pedigree is not up for debate.
