Tottenham following former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri as Mourinho replacement
According to reports in Italy (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham Hotspur are closely following the availability of former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese has been in charge at Tottenham since November 2019, having replaced Mauricio Pochettino following a disappointing start to the 2019/20 campaign. Mourinho did largely well in his first term at the club, leading us to a sixth-place finish after having taken over when we were 14th.
Things looked to be going pretty well for Spurs under Jose this term as well, as a strong start to the campaign saw the club emerge as early contenders for the Premier League title. However, since the festive period, things have gone downhill quite swiftly.
Out of the title picture, we are now battling to make it to the top four while also crashing out of the FA Cup and the Europa League. The Carabao Cup remains the only hope of ending the season on a positive note.
Nevertheless, reports have claimed that Mourinho’s position will be under serious threat if a top-four finish is not achieved in the league. And now, according to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham are monitoring Sarri, along with local rivals Arsenal.
“Maurizio Sarri has not signed with any team. A month ago he said no to Marseille. Arsenal and Tottenham are following him, as well as Roma”.
Sarri has been without a job since leaving Juventus at the end of the last season, having led them another Serie A title. Prior to that, he enjoyed a lot of success with Napoli.

Sarri also had a stint in England as well, where he led Chelsea to the UEFA Europa League triumph along with a third-place finish in the league. Despite having not lasted more than a season in his last two jobs, the Italian is held in high esteem for his tactical nous while his teams are known for playing eye-catching brand of football.
The report adds that he is now actively looking to get back into management after a year out. And, Tottenham could be a destination for the Italian should Mourinho fail to meet the season’s objectives.
