Transfer News: Tottenham star Erik Lamela inching towards Serie A switch

According to Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport (h/t TEAMtalk), Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela could be set for a transfer to Serie A this summer amid interest from AC Milan and Napoli.

The Argentine international joined Tottenham from AS Roma back in the summer of 2013, arriving as a replacement for Gareth Bale who had left for Real Madrid. Despite spending eight years at the club, Lamela has never quite been able to establish himself as a regular starter.

Injury issues and inconsistencies have marred his time in north London. The 29-year-old has made over 250 appearances for Tottenham but has managed just 37 goals till date, four of which have come in the ongoing season.

Lamela will be out of contract with Tottenham in the summer of 2022. And the club are now understood to be keen on cashing in on him this year itself. And a return to Italy could very well be on the cards for the attacking midfielder.

Indeed, AC Milan have shown an interest in signing the Argentine international. Contacts have already taken place between the Rossoneri and his representatives. In addition to that, Napoli have also entered the fray to try and secure Lamela’s signing as well. Intense contacts are already said to have taken place over a summer transfer. (h/t TEAMtalk)

The report also goes on to add that Lamela is willing to take a pay cut on his current wages at Tottenham in order to seal a return to the Serie A this summer.

Lamela is a fan favourite at Tottenham. And despite his struggles, he is someone who always gives his everything. But with Tottenham in need of funds heading into the summer and his contract expiring in a year, an exit may be the best decision for everyone.
