Tottenham Hotspur sack Jose Mourinho after less than 2 years at the club

A report by John Percy of The Telegraph (h/t Fabrizio Romano) mentions that Tottenham Hotspur have given Jose Mourinho the sack after a rancid run of results in the past few months.

The reason for the sacking remains unclear at the moment. And this news comes within a day of Spurs announcing themselves as one of the founding members of the newly-formed European Super League.

Spurs were struggling in the league and are not in the FA Cup or the UEFA Europa League. It is the elimination from the latter that drew Mourinho significant criticism this season; Dinamo Zagreb dumped Spurs out of the competition in a humiliating fashion.

The Telegraph (h/t Daily Star) also add that former Spurs player Ryan Mason, and Chris Powell will take charge of the club on a temporary basis.

Mourinho gone

Powell coaches the Spurs academy. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Mason entered Tottenham’s coaching staff in 2018 after retiring from football due to a skull injury.

This shocking turn of events comes less than a week before Spurs take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final. Mourinho has won a number of high-profile trophies throughout his career in different countries.

And this decision will surely baffle fans as to why the serial winner was sacked so close to the club’s latest chance of winning their first trophy in 13 years.

Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann were touted as potential replacements for Mourinho last month. But it remains to be seen who the club choose to employ, and if they do it before or after the end of this season.

The news, which was expected but still shocking, got some mixed reaction from Spurs fans. Here are some of the best of them.
