Transfer News: Tottenham join Chelsea in Gabriel Menino pursuit
According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Chelsea and Atletico Madrid in the transfer race for Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Menino.
Menino, 20, came through the youth ranks at Brazilian outfit Palmeiras and made his first-team breakthrough last year. Since then, the midfielder has gone on to rack up 62 senior appearances, scoring four goals and setting up seven more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A central midfielder by trade, Menino is a versatile player who can play at right-back, right-wing, attacking midfield as well as left-midfield. This versatility and flexibility, coupled with the potential that he has shown have led to interest from a host of clubs from Europe.
Indeed, the likes of Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Juventus have all set their sights on Menino, who is yet to make his debut for the Brazilian national team. And among those interested in the 20-year-old versatile star are Tottenham Hotspur. (h/t Calciomercato)
Tottenham could benefit from the transfer of Menino
Tottenham will need additions to the midfield unit next summer given as Moussa Sissoko is not getting any younger while the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele haven’t been able to play on the highest level on a consistent basis.
And while Menino could yet be untested in Europe, the fact that so many top clubs are lining up to sign him should be an indicator of his potential.

Someone like Menino can be the ideal partner in midfield for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has become an undisputed starter since arriving at the club last summer. It now remains to be seen whether Tottenham are able to complete a transfer for Menino or other clubs make a swoop for the 20-year-old star in the making.
