Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust demands resignation from Daniel Levy and the board
According to Football.london, the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) has called for the resignation of Daniel Levy and the rest of the club board with immediate effect.
This development comes in the aftermath of Tottenham’s involvement in the now-defunct breakaway European Super League. The Lilywhites were among the 12 clubs that announced the formation of renegade tournament only to see it crash and burn two days later amid severe backlash from fans, pundits, former and current players and managers.
It was a money-driven move by each of the 12 clubs involved and fans have been left least impressed by the actions. As a result, the supporters have taken to protesting against the owners of each of the big six clubs of England.
Now, the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) has called for the entire executive board to resign after a meeting on Friday night.
Statement released by THST
Here’s part of the statement that was released by the Trust following the meeting.
“The Board of Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust held a members’ meeting via Zoom tonight to agree the Trust’s position towards the Executive Board of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and to seek a mandate for our next steps.
The responsibility of the Club’s Board is to always act in the best interests of THFC. The current Board clearly has not acted in the best interests of the football club. In fact, its action could still lead to outcomes that are in the worst interests of THFC.
We think their relationship with us is irreparably broken. And we think their continued presence risks punitive action being taken against the club. We believe the immediate resignation of the current Executive Board is in the best long-term interests of the Club.”
In addition to demanding the resignation of the current board, THST also called up the election of a new board with proper fan representation.
“To be clear, we are calling for effective, elected and accountable fan representation at Board level and not for members of the current THST Board to be that elected fan representative.”
