Transfer News: Tottenham target Mike Maignan set for AC Milan move
According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), LOSC Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who had been linked with a transfer to Tottenham, has agreed to a switch to Serie A giants AC Milan.
Maignan is a product of the PSG academy but moved to Lille in 2015 in search of first-team opportunities. Till date the 24-year-old has racked up 176 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit, keeping 62 clean sheets.
Having grown into one of the most impressive goalkeepers in France, Maignan has emerged as a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are in the market for a new goalkeeper as the club eyes a long-term replacement for captain Hugo Lloris, who is entering the final year of his contract. (h/t Express)
However, it is now being said that Maignan is close to sealing a transfer to AC Milan, delivering a major blow to Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of landing him. Indeed, as per the aforementioned report the Rossoneri have agreed a five-year contract worth €3m-a-year with the French international.
It is further added that a transfer fee of around €18m should get the deal over the line as Lille share good relations with Milan.
This report aligns with what reputed journalist Nicolo Schira tweeted out yesterday. The Italian reporter claimed that Milan had agreed on a deal with Maignan, although the terms of the contract he mentioned differ slightly from the Gazzetta report.
Mike #Maignan has agreed personal terms with #ACMilan for a contract until 2026 (€2M/year + add-ons). #Rossoneri are ready to finalize the deal with #Lille, if #Donnarumma doesn’t extend his contract. The french GK has made 18 clean sheets in this season in #Ligue1. #transfers https://t.co/pOgbwt0MAX

Maignan has been on the rise in Ligue 1 for the past couple of years. Given his age, experience and proven pedigree, he would have been the perfect long-term replacement for Lloris. The fact that his contract with Lille runs out in 2022 would have meant he would have been affordable as well.
However, it seems like Tottenham have been beaten to the punch by Milan.
