Transfer News: Tottenham among main contenders to sign Merih Demiral
The 23-year-old started out at Turkish giants Fenerbahce and had stints at Sporting Lisbon, Alanyaspor and Sassuolo before joining Juventus last summer. However, the Turkish international endured a difficult debut season in Turin, owing to a cruciate ligament knee injury.
Having been restricted to just eight appearances in 2019/20, Demiral has once again been blighted by injury problems. And, as a result, he finds himself behind the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt in the pecking order.
As a result, Demiral has been restricted to just 23 appearances across all competitions in 2020/21, with 14 of them coming in Serie A. Despite his continued struggle to get regular game time in Turin, the 23-year-old’s stock remains high as ever, with a host of clubs lining up to sign him, should Juventus decide to offload the Turkish international this summer.
And one among those clubs is Tottenham Hotspur. We will be needing defensive reinforcements ahead of next season following yet another disappointing campaign. Toby Alderweireld is not getting any younger while Eric Dier has been largely inconsistent.
The same goes for Davinson Sanchez as well, who has been linked with a potential return to former club AFC Ajax in the summer. That being said, a new centre-back is of paramount importance as Tottenham look to get back on track in the upcoming campaign. To that end, someone like Demiral, despite his fitness problems, would be a fine signing.

When fit and available, the Turkish centre-back can be a huge asset for any side. So, it is no wonder that the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Everton and Atletico Madrid are all vying for his transfer along with Tottenham.
